Hannie Varosy

"I am inspired by much – by my family, friends and students – by what they say and think. I am inspired by nature, by inanimate things and shapes, by concepts, by what goes on in the world, by Life. I say “It is always busy in my head.” I try to practice silence, and “distill” my topics, as they surface spontaneously."

Artist's Biography:

I was raised mostly in the Netherlands although my family lived in the US and Germany for a short periods. I completed my education in visual arts and art history in the mid 1970s. In the 1980s I met my husband in New York and decided to immigrate to the US. We moved our family (we had two daughters) to Washington County in 1990s. I initially worked in the Greenwich Library, running art programs for young kids and developmentally disabled adults. I also taught in my studio on North road, Hubbard Hall and the Courthouse in Salem. My students are extremely varied, including preschoolers to high school students, adults, or adults who need specifically designed classes . I also teach Senior Citizens during the school year, while in the summer we take rides to various museums and paint outside.

I am interested in all sorts of media , for my own work and for the classes I teach.
I have an open mind for materials and their possibilities similar to how I view my students............with an open mind, always trying to step into their shoes and convincing them to be excited about their possibilities and abilities!
